Sandy FAQ

Are there any restrictions as to what electrical components can be mounted in the front compartments of Type WL arc resistant LVS?

Wires/cables that connect directly to the bus bar can’t be run into the front compartments (blank, auxiliary, breaker, etc.) without current limiting fuses in the circuit.

The wires and the devices they connect to must be located in the bus or cable compartment if current limiting fuses aren’t included in the electrical circuit. CPTs and PTs can be installed in a front compartment as long as their associated current limiting fuses are located in the rear of the switchgear (bus or cable compartment). As a standard practice, CPTs and PTs are located in the rear of the switchgear unless requested otherwise by the customer.

Surge protective devices (SPD) and high resistance grounding (HRG) can be integrated into arc resistant low voltage switchgear but they are examples of electrical components that require current limiting fusing in the electrical circuit that runs from the bus bar to the components located in the front auxiliary compartment.
